Feb. 3 NFL Mock Draft

1.) Cleveland Browns

Name
Myles Garret
Position
Defensive end
Height
6'5"
Weight
269 lbs
College
Texas A&M

This pick should go as no secret, Cleveland simply needs help. They have glaring needs at almost every position including quarterback. However with an athlete like Garrett available you have to take him. He may have to switch to an outside linebacker to fit the 3-4 system ran in Cleveland but if they use him the way Washington uses Ryan Kerrigan it should mesh very well. Many compare Garrett to Von Miller but only time will tell if he’s up that level.

 2.) San Francisco 49ers

Name
DeShaun Watson
Position
Quarterback
Height
6' 2"
Weight
210
College
Clemson

This pick will change almost every day with everything going on in the 49ers organization.  A team rebuilding should look away from a developmental quarterback but with Kyle Shanahan coming to town – he’ll want a quarterback he can grow with.  Right now Deshaun Watson is not a top 10 pick, however with the weeks to come he’ll start pushing up draft boards as teams start putting out smoke screens about taking him.  He’ll also put on a show at the combine and pro day. Realistically Reuben Foster is a good pick here but the quarterback run will start here.

3.) Chicago Bears

Name
Jonathan Allen
Position
Defensive tackle, Defensive end
Height
6' 3"
Weight
290
College
Alabama

Here goes one of my top players in this draft. Jonathan Allen is a freak. Not only on the field but in the classroom as well.  With such a high motor, strength, and nose for the ball, he makes an impact on almost every play.  One article wrote that he plays angry as a way to let past frustration out which may seem to good but it makes me think of the exact same thing Ndamukong Suh does which leads to plenty of penalties and fines. With good coaching and mentoring Jonathan Allen has the ability to be one of the best interior lineman in the NFL.

4.) Jacksonville Jaguars

Name
Dalvin Cook
Position
Running back
Height
5' 11"
Weight
206
Past Teams
Florida State

In recent years Jacksonville has invested a decent amount into the RB position. They drafted TJ Yeldon early in the 2nd round as well as paid Chris Ivory.  Neither of which have shown “all-pro” ability.  Both current backs have shown streaks of what they could be but Yeldon struggles to stay on the field and Ivory seems to be carrying a Vaseline covered ball.

Many mockers have Jamal Adams slated here but people forget the Jags have Tashaun Gipson on the back end that can do a decent job.  Regardless, outside of piss poor coaching by Gus Bradley the one thing that held the Jaguars back in 2016 was the struggles of Blake Bortles. They need someone that can keep a defense honest and possess the ability to make slash plays.

 5.) Tennessee Titans

Name
Jamal Adams
Position
Safety
Height
6' 0"
Weight
211
College
LSU

Tennessee showed some “gumption” last year on the offensive end. Even with less than stellar receivers; the offensive line, running backs, and quarterback played way beyond expectations leading me to believe this pick needs to be on the defensive side of the grass.  Enter Jamal Adams. This kid looks promising and has only scratched the surface. Not to mention Tennessee’s porous pass defense. He plays similar to Eric Berry, being able to play tough in tackling situations and also a tremendous ball-hawk. Whoever lands Adams will have a superstar come Sundays.

6.) New York Jets

Name
Leonard Fournette
Position
Running back
Height
6' 1"
Weight
235
College
LSU

I’ve always stayed away from putting a running back here but with reports of Christian Hackenberg developing nicely I think they stick with him. Adding Fournette would be a great compliment.  Without getting too far ahead of myself I’ll lightly say Fournette runs similar to AP.  Not the kind of back that will break any ankles but runs with a vengeance. He finds the crease, hits the hole, and runs with a full head of steam. If healthy, Fournette can make a huge name for himself on Sundays.

7.) Los Angeles Chargers

Name
DeShone Kizer
Position
Quarterback
Height
6' 4"
Weight
230
College
Notre Dame

As ageless as Philip Rivers seems, the Chargers needs to start preparing for the future.  This would be a great situation for Kizer to step in and learn under Rivers’ wing for a couple years.  Its hard to say Kizer is NFL ready right now which puts him in a great spot to sit and learn rather than throwing him to the wolves. Melvin Gordon will provide much needed support in the running game helping the next quarterback bank off the play action and check downs.

 8.) Carolina Panthers

Name
Marlon Humphrey
Position
Cornerback
Height
6' 1"
Weight
195
College
Alabama

We all watched the collapse of Carolina when the defense wasnt able to play at the level they did in 2015.  This, in large part due to the departure of Josh Norman. Teams were able to attack their #1 corner game in and game out.  Marlon Humphrey provides a big frame and great coverage skills to emulate a player like Norman. Something else to watch for in Humphrey is his combine. Coming from a track back ground I expect him to FLY at his 40 yard dash and prove that he has the ability to run with the fastest NFL wide receivers.

9.) Cincinnati Bengals

Name
Mike Williams
Position
Wide receiver
Height
6' 3"
Weight
225
College
Clemson

It may seem like a stretch here but we all witnessed what the Bengals werent without AJ Green and Tyler Eifert, and that was mediocre. Losing Marvin Jones to the Lions in 2016 left Green as Dalton’s only big play threat. Mike Williams is a big bodied receiver capable of making the big play and extending drives. Many compare him to Calvin Johnson Jr. however I doubt he’s got the 4.3 speed as megatron did.

10.) Buffalo Bills

Name
Corey Davis
Position
Wide receiver
Height
6' 3"
Weight
205
College
Western Michigan

Behind Sammy Watkins, Buffalo has a little depth at the receiver position.  Some games Corey Davis played looked like it was unfair he was even on the field at that level.  He’s a big receiver capable of taking over a game  the same way Julio Jones and Mike Evans can do.  Davis will not perform at the combine which will hurt his draft stock for a month but come draft day, he’ll be taken high.

 11.) New Orleans Saints

Name
Malik Hooker
Position
Safety
Height
6' 0"
Weight
202
College
Ohio State

Even with an aging Brees, the Saints will be able to score points. Playing in the NFC South is all about trying to stop/slow down the other divisional offenses. They gave Jarius Byrd a lot of money to become an average safety at best. They drafted Vonn Bell last year on the SS side but why not pair him with his ball-hawking, teammate, free safety, from last year. This tandem would be special in the back end of that secondary.

12.) Cleveland Browns

Name
Mitch Trubisky
Position
Quarterback
Height
6' 3"
Weight
220
College
North Carolina

The Browns are not being shy when it comes to discussing the players they are interested.  They’ve been rumors to be very high on both Myles Garrett and Deshaun Watson, even asking Watson to play in the Senior Bowl.  Its no secret they need a quarterback, and thankfully this isnt at the notorious 22nd pick.(Weeden, Manziel, Quinn) However, with Watson expectedly off the board, I think they go with Mitch Trubisky.  Now I dont think he’s a day 1 starter.  He has some mechanical issues and decision making issues to fix before taking the field but he has the poise and drive to be an NFL quarterback some day. We’ll find out in time if this is too early to take him or not.

13.) Arizona Cardinals

Name
O.J. Howard
Position
Tight end
Height
6' 4"
Weight
255
College
Alabama

Teams know that Arizona should target one of the big receivers in Williams and Davis with the departure of Michael Floyd and possibly Larry Fitzgerald. Which is why I believe they both go before Arizona. Never the less, the Cardinals still have a chance to take an amazing pass catching tight end.  OJ Howard started the Senior Bowl week as the best looking prospect there.  He’s a big, athletic, player capable of keeping both safetys honest in the play action to not only act as a deep threat but a decoy in the run.

 14.) Indianapolis Colts

Name
Reuben Foster
Position
Middle linebacker
Height
6' 1"
Weight
240
College
Alabama

Indianapolis needs help defensively, especially with the run.  Reuben Foster is good enough to be draft top 5 but the 2017 draft is surprisingly deep in defensive play makers. D’Qwell Jackson is good middle linebacker but how much does he have left? They also need more speed around that side of the ball.  Foster FLIES around the field and does not miss a tackle.

15.) Philadelphia Eagles

Name
Marshon Lattimore
Position
Cornerback
Height
6' 0"
Weight
195
College
Ohio State

Its no secret that Philly would love Dalvin Cook, however they cannot make a trade into the top 5-10 2 years in a row.  Their secondary also needs a bit of help so why not take the fresh corner from Ohio State. Lattimore doesnt have a whole lot of on field tape to watch but when he played, he played!

16.) Baltimore Ravens

Name
Tim Williams
Position
Outside linebacker, Defensive end
Height
6' 4"
Weight
237
College
Alabama

I’m sure Baltimore would love to address the corner position here but with so much depth at DB in this draft, I see them taking a pure pass rusher. Tim Williams is just that, a pure pass rusher. At 6′ 4″ 240 lbs, he has the length and bend to get around tackles in a hurry. Suggs and Dumerville arent getting any younger so this would be a perfect time to bring in a young star on the edge and let him learn.

 17.) Washington Redskins

Name
Malik McDowell
Position
Defensive tackle, Defensive end
Height
6' 6"
Weight
280
College
Michigan State

Its obvious, Washington needs interior line on the defensive side of the ball. At the beginning of the college season, many could have slated McDowell to be a top 10 pick. However an injury stunted season made him fall.  I expect him to be viewed by many, if not, all team doctors the same way Myles Jack did last year to check out those injuries. He’s the prototypical 3-4 end with the potential to be a dominant force.

18.) Tennessee Titans

Name
Qunicy Wilson
Position
Cornerback
Height
6' 1"
Weight
213
College
Florida

Quincy Wilson is still raw without much starting experience but he flashed this year as one of the nations best defenders. His size doesnt lie at 6′ 1″ 210 lbs, he can press and still recover to not get lost in coverage. I dont see a lot of turnovers coming from Wilson but what he can do is completely shut down a teams best wide receiver.

19.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Name
John Ross
Position
Wide receiver
Height
5' 11"
Weight
190
College
Washington

Tampa has plenty of big target options but lack some speed on the offensive end.  Teams know to send the house to cover Mike Evans but with the addition of John Ross, it could open up the deep route. Ross has great hands, route running ability, and of course, speed. Plenty of speed.

 20.) Denver Broncos

Name
Cam Robinson
Position
Offensive tackle
Height
6' 6"
Weight
310
College
Alabama

Its hard to evaluate Denver. They were that team that reminds me of someone on steroids. Bulk up to a beast and crumble back down to nothing just as fast. They still have great pieces on defense but did they invest too much in certain areas. Regardless they have to trust what they have on defense and the depth. Which ever quarterback they decide on, he needs protection.  Robinson why not be the best pass blocker but he’s shown great run blocking and with his athleticism, he should have no problem tightening up that pass blocking.

21.) Detroit Lions

Name
Caleb Brantley
Position
Defensive tackle
Height
6' 2"
Weight
320
College
Florida

After losing Suh, the Lions still havent filled that hole. The addition of Ngata filled their 5 technique but still lack an interior pass rusher. Caleb Brantley is just that. He’s a guy you can give the keys to the 3 technique position and let him to go work. The more blockers it takes to stop him, will only open up the field for Ansah to get to the QB. Its rare to see a 315 lb lineman as the first one off the ball but thats not the case when Brantley is on the field.

22.) Miami Dolphins

Name
Derek Barnett
Position
Defensive end
Height
6' 3"
Weight
270
College
Tennessee

Miami proved their offense can drive with Adam Gase as the coach. The outside of the pass rush, their defense was the weak point of the team.  In years past middle linebacker was always a glaring hole but Kiko Alonso stepped in and did a nice job. With that being said they have to start thinking about getting some young pass rushers to mentor under Cam Wake. Barnett has a big frame like Wake and can rush the passer as well as cover the run.

 23.) New York Giants

Name
Solomon Thomas
Position
Defensive end
Height
6' 3"
Weight
270
College
Stanford

After spending over $200 million on defense last year, this pick still makes total sense.  JPP is set to hit free agency and is looking for around 5 year $75 million – something New York would be foolish to pay.  Also Olivier Vernon, just because he signed that huge deal, is not married to the Giants.  He can play out his guaranteed money and possibly get cut if the production is not there.

Leading me to believing Thomas is the choice.  He proved at his bowl game, that he a man among boys.

24.) Oakland Raiders

Name
Zach Cunningham
Position
Middle linebacker
Height
6' 4"
Weight
230
College
Vanderbilt

As good as Oakland showed they can do, they still need help on defense. They dont have any spectacular linebackers, assuming you consider Mack a DE. Cunningham was a finalist for the Butkus award for good reason. He plays like a true general of the defense. His size is prime for an NFL MLB with the speed and nose to make plays on any play.

25.) Houston Texans

Name
Teez Tabor
Position
Cornerback
Height
6' 0"
Weight
190
College
Florida

AJ Bouye is set to hit the free agent and I honestly don’t think he’s worth the money that he’ll demand. He’s a 1 year wonder and banked off that great pass rush.  However to fill his shoes why not bring in a possible long term answer that can grow up with the team, assuming Tabor can grow up off the field.  If he can, he has the ability to be a top NFL corner.

 26.) Seattle Seahawks

Name
Ryan Ramczyk
Position
Offensive tackle
Height
6' 6"
Weight
315
College
Wisconsin

Ryan Ramcyzk could be on the best offensive linemen in this draft if it weren’t for his off-season hip surgery. I’m going to leave him at this pick until we hear more about it because he is that good.  He’ll probably have to start at RT for a couple years but like most Wisconsin linemen, he should accel no matter what.

27.) Kansas City Chiefs

Name
Christian McCaffrey
Position
Running back
Height
6' 0"
Weight
205
College
Stanford

If Christian McCaffrey doesn’t scream “Andy Reid running back” I dont know who does. Kansas City thrives off quick, skat backs. McCaffrey is just as dangerous running up the middle as he is in the screen game.  Jamal Charles has shown a lot of injuries and may be playing for someone else in 2017 so watch for KC to find a solid replacement.

28.) Dallas Cowboys

Name
Chris Wormley
Position
Defensive end
Height
6' 6"
Weight
300
College
Michigan

The Dallas pass rushers cannot stay out of trouble. Their offense is obviously set for a while, as well as their secondary. The secondary isn’t Hall of Fame worthy but they do the job.  Chris Wormley can play in both the 3-4 and 4-3 systems. Finding the back field is his specialty.

 29.) Green Bay Packers

Name
Raekwon McMillian
Position
Middle linebacker
Height
6' 2"
Weight
245
College
Ohio State

I’ve been saying for years, Green Bay, needs a premier middle line backer. Blake Martinez stepped in this year and showed some good signs but a player like McMillian is someone who can lead the defense for many years. He’s an absolute savage on the defensive side of the ball.

30.) Pittsburgh Steelers

Name
Jabrill Peppers
Position
Safety
Height
6' 0"
Weight
208
College
Michigan

This pick may be the most controversial pick I make.  If Pittsburgh has the patience to mold Peppers into a true SS, not only will they get an electric player on defense but a solid man in the return game too.  Peppers will put on a show at his combine and pro day so scouts should focus solely on his game tape.

31.) New England Patriots

Name
Takkarist Mckinley
Position
Outside linebacker, Defensive end
Height
6' 2"
Weight
265
College
UCLA

New England lost Jamie Collins and Chandler Jones last year which depleted their pass rush. McKinley had great production at UCLA, showing a mix of power with speed off the edge. He fits perfect into the strong side OLB for New England and bring some pass rush back.

 32.) Atlanta Falcons

Name
Sidney Jones
Position
Cornerback
Height
6' 0"
Weight
185
College
Washington

Despite Jones’ size, he has the ability to mirror almost any wide-out. With Desmond Trufant returning in 2017 and a budding pass rusher squad, look for Sidney Jones to complete that evolving secondary in Atlanta. Dan Quinn is a defensive guy from Seattle that once had the Legion of Boom.
